It’s hard to open any fashion magazine or turn on your tv without seeing the hottest new fashion trend in the shape of a bell sleeve! They’re a fun and dramatic way to take any look and spice it up with little effort and maximum comfort.
If your sleeve is wide and flowy, it’s best to pair it with something more fitted on the bottom to balance out your look. Black Orchid denim is a favorite of ours, and this trend is also a great way to update jeans you might already have in your wardrobe! Since blue seems to be the shade of the season, don’t be afraid to try it with a colored denim like white or gray. Although this look tends to be dramatic, you can make it wearable and easily tone it down for everyday. Try the bell sleeve trend for work by minimizing the flare or wearing a flutter sleeve in a neutral tone.
We also love to combine new trends like the off the shoulder or cold shoulder tops/dresses with the flared sleeve. Try them in a fun floral for spring, or pinstripe for a modern look (trend alert – pinstripes will be hot for fall!). This is a great way to keep it current, and adding a statement piece around your neck will modernize your look and keep it sexy!
New trends can sometimes be intimidating, so we recommend starting out small and working your way up to something more dramatic as you become more comfortable with the look. Everyone can wear any trend, but it’s all about trial and error. Not every body type can wear the huge bell, so for some a smaller flare may be more suitable. The most important thing is to have fun with it and explore the modern twist on a 70s favorite – make it your own!
Suitcase in one hand, Starbucks in the other, and oversized sunglasses on. One last check to make sure we have our passports, then we’re off to the airport.
We land in New York and are immediately on the go. Our first stop is the Javits Center. We start our morning off at Aidan Mattox checking out their latest cocktail options for Fall. We pick the best of the best for all of Halifax’s social essentials. Next, we head over to Nicole Miller to see their collection that has come straight off the runway. The vibe is street chic, blending classic silhouettes with bright colors and trendy prints.
We then head to the Fashion District to find the all the best looks for our mothers of the bride and groom. First stop, Alex Evenings, where their focus is on classic looks and impeccable fits that work for every body type. We are so excited to see that they’ve added some of our favorite cocktail dresses in full length. We then head to the Tadashi showroom where it feels like you are walking into a whole different world. Their use of color and embroidery is unparalleled. I will confess, we did a bit of shopping for ourselves here as well as finding beautiful unique pieces for the store.
We’ve been on the go for the last 12 hours, but we have one more stop before we can have a well-deserved glass of wine. We are greeted at Alexia Admor by one of our favorite reps, Adam. He shows us his carefully curated Fall collection that hits on classic femininity while still being sexy and trendy. We love the mix of bold prints and soft lace. It was the perfect way to end our fashion packed day! Off to enjoy a delicious meal at Fig and Olive…and a cocktail!
